The USPS Board of Governors took initial legal action to obtain sanctioning for its plan to close the Littleton Main Post Office on September 30, 2010 through the Optimization & Consolidation Initiative (OCI).

The Colorado/Wyoming District Office have asked the Postal Rate Commision (PRC) for its blessing in closing down our neighborhood post office.

As a former postal worker, I have obtained information that the District is not waiting for the opinion of the PRC and has notified local unions and management of their expitdited process.

This petition is written in my own hand and has nothing do with my former postal local union. (I was told to include this in my petition.)

This petition is simply a grass-roots effort to keep the Littleton Main Post Office open for the citizens of our town. Our city and county governments utilize that particular post office for its business.

Including my own business, The Old Post Office Bakery, I have distributed many of these petitions to most of the downtown Littleton businesses with their consent. Postal management alongside of their companion postal unions will NOT choose this route - so it is up to us!! - the citizens of Littleton.

Postal customers who have P.O. boxes will have immediate impacts as box sections will be located many miles away. Our zip codes WILL change as they are no longer necessary.

The Littleton Main Post Office was "studied" by outsiders of our city and our state. These folks determined that our local post office was obsolete under their Transformation plan.

Under Congressional law, there was supposed to be a time period for public input concerning the closure of a Postal installation. Obviously, this never occured and so you can see what kind of lying snakes we are dealing with. This is why I am taking this to the streets, literally. You, as postal customers, will have to drive an additional 8 miles away to the next closest post office.

I have contacted our Congressman, Mike Coffman, of Aurora. I have received his blessings on this petition (see accompanying letter). The ultimate decisions for the ideas of five-day delivery and post office closures rests in their hands and not that of the post office. It is up to us as citizens of Colorado to send a clear message that we DO NOT want the Littleton Main Post Office closed.

Management and the unions are too busy preening like peacocks to care about what the customers want or need.

Thank you for caring,

Mark Bivens
