Save our country by changing Congressional Benefits

Petition published by Sandra Burkhart on Jul 12, 2012
12 Signatures
Target: The United States Congress and the POTUS

Petition Background (Preamble):

The members of Senate of the House of Representatives receive retirement for life and the best health care available, long after they have retired from Congress.

We believe it would be fairer and in the best interest of the people of the United States of America if members of Congress had to rely on Social Security and Medicare just like other retired citizens. This would insure that they would look out for the interests of the common man because they would have a vested interest in these essential programs.

Congress has the right to vote on their own benefits and raises. The unlimited terms of services for these politicians also leads to further corruption of our government.

Petition:

We, the undersigned, call on all members of Congress who receive retirement for life and the best health care available, long after they have retired from Congress, to renounce these unfair benefits.

We believe it would be fairer and in the best interests of the people of the United States of America if members of Congress had to rely on Social Security and Medicare just like other retired citizens.

This would insure that they would look out for the interests of the common man because they would have a vested interest in these essential programs.

We also believe that the people of the United States should be allowed to vote on any changes to the benefits of Congress members, including current pay rates, pay raises, benefits, and limited terms of office.
