We are a major US airline with a growing route structure into the developing world, specifically Africa and South Asia. Currently our only required and provided vaccine is a Yellow Fever shot.
The Center for Disease Control recommends several other precautions and vaccines and these can be viewed on their website.
We feel that unnecessary risks are being taken with the health of crewmembers and we are asking that our company provide us with the recommended (CDC) protections.
We, the undersigned, Flight Attendants and Pilots, demand that we are provided with the Center for Disease Control (CDC) recommended vaccinations and precautions as we work on new routes into Africa and South Asia.
Presently, the only protection provided to us, is a Ghanaian government required Yellow Fever shot. This is grossly inadequate particularly in Ghana where there is a high rate of Malaria infection and where the CDC had determined that it is prevalent in all areas of the country.
We ask for an immediate institution of CDC recommended precautions and vaccinations, for crewmembers who fly these routes and for crewmembers who could potentially fly them.
