Liverpool Coastguard is responsible for Search and Rescue for the offshore, inshore and shoreline areas of the Irish Sea from the river Dee in North Wales, to the Mull of Galloway in South West Scotland. This also includes the waters around the Isle of Man and the four main lakes of the Lake District.
Within our area of responsibility are oil & gas fields, wind farms, busy commercial ports, marinas & yacht clubs, beaches & popular tourist areas, civil & military airports, fishing grounds & cockle beds and military firing/exercise areas.
The UK's Coalition Government has proposed the closure of Liverpool Coastguard. This will result in the loss of vital local knowledge and a reduction in the efficiency of rescuing people in difficulty along our coastline and at sea.
Liverpool Coastguard is the only Coastguard station on the west coast of England.
