The Kroger grocery store on St. Andrews Road by I-26 in Columbia, SC is closing. Residents weren't told about the closure or even given a way to save the grocery store. This grocery story has been in our community for over 15 years.
This grocery store employes local high school and college students in the area and has given many jobs to persons with disabilities. This store closing means that many will have to drive to Irmo for work or be unemployed. All customers that have prescriptions at Kroger will have to find other pharmacies to fill their prescriptions. This Kroger has a Chick-fil-a inside and with the store closing it is forcing Chick-fil-a to either close or change locations. This is one of the healthier choices for fast food in this area.
This Kroger has a vast selection of organic and natural foods. With no other organic grocery store in the area this will force customers to go to a different side of town just to by food that is healthier for them. A lot of people in this community do not have reliable transportation and rely on being able to catch the bus or walk to the grocery store.
When this grocery store closes the entire community will only have one other grocery store in the area without having to drive to a different part of town just to pick up dinner.

It is one of the better grocery stores without having to drive to Harbison or Forest Acres for healthier food.
