A pilot for a registered flexible bus route in Kirkwall was run for 6 months from October 2010. Although it attracted growing passenger numbers, it proved uneconomically viable.

Many of the passengers had transferred from Dialabus over to the new route and this freed their buses up to serve more isolated members of the community, whilst also providing more travel opportunities within Kirkwall, not just for Dialabus members, but to the wider community.

In April 2011, Dialabus stepped in to provide staffing support in order to help the route continue. With the reduction in core funding this year, Dialabus can no longer afford to fund additional staffing support and so the route is scheduled to be cancelled in the Autumn.

We, the undersigned, wish to see the continuation of the Kirkwall Town Flexible Bus Service.

The Save Kirkwall Flexible Bus Service petition to Orkney Islands Council was written by Hazel Aim and is in the category Roads & Transport at GoPetition.
