School District 57 is attempting to close Hixon Elementary School. The potential school closure is more than a budget issue with School District 57 it is about saving a community which has been around for generations. Closing the school will potentially destroy the economy of the town. To accept the fact that the parents of over 33 children in a growing town will put their children on a bus and ship them to a neighbouring city for 2 hours of commuting a day is unacceptable.

This petition is to show that we do care about our children. We do care about our community. We do care about the people and the businesses which we have built upon for decades and we are not willing to let it go because we are small. We do care. We are willing to fight for the community which means so much to so many people. To tear down the educational structure in our community means to tear down our town that our parents and our families believed in.

If you believe in equality for all people in BC and are willing to support the economic stability of all people in Canada we urge you to support this petition.

We the undersigned call upon School District 57, The Ministry of Education, Minister Margaret MacDiarmid, and Premier Gordon Campbell to consider the request of Hixon, BC to keep their school system intact.

To take away the educational structure of the community would have a devastating and long lasting impact on our community.

We the people ask you to reconsider your proposal for school closure in order to maintain our community and our continued growth.
