Edna (Education Network Australia) has served the Australian education community for 14 years. During that time it has built a searchable resource database of over 40,000 items, reviewed for their curriculum role and relevance.

It has been the first stop for teachers and teacher librarians to give students appropriate websites at their level of understanding and readability.

It has been a leader in promoting collaborative and personalized services across education levels and sectors, with unparalleled support in particular areas such as 'myfuture' which helps users build career plans and portfolios.

Membership in shared information services, such as email groups, forums and moodles, has reached almost 200,000, facilitating sharing and communication between students and educators.

It is the search engine of choice in classrooms to help students manage the information explosion, providing access to collaborative projects in a global community of learning and teaching, such as OZProjects.

Now it is threatened with decommissioning by the end of September 2011. The full review behind this move has not been made public. This review did not include major states/territories using edna, WA, NT, SA and Tasmania.

We, the undersigned, call on the federal government to stop the decommissioning of edna, to make the full report public and to clarify consequences for implementation of the National Curriculum.
