Background (Preamble):
To the Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of New South Wales.

The Petition of citizens of New South Wales Brings to the attention of the House that Boomalli Aboriginal Artists Co-operative, with 23 years of achievements by New South Wales Aboriginal artists for the people of New South Wales, has been required to vacate the premises.

The property, owned by Tullagulla Limited, an Aboriginal organisation, will be handed over to the Australian Government without compensation.

An Elder who is a member of Boomalli: "I just want to say that a black organisation is giving a building back to the government. Too hard to digest."

Peter Garrett, Minister for the Environment, Heritage and the Arts, Australian Government: "The time has come To say fair's fair A fact's a fact To pay the rent To pay our share The time has come It belongs to them Let's give it back".
