Injuries caused by road traffic crashes have becoming a leading cause of death, being rated among the top five human killers today. Zimbabwe has not been spared. Over 1500 people die on the road every year, +12 000 are injured many of them critically and permanently causing untold suffering to families, communities and the nation at large.
Road traffic crashes can be prevented and it is up to us to ACT to prevent their continued occurrence.
Zimbabwe needs a great change in attitude among all road users, legislation that prohibits continued traffic law infringement and safer infrastructure.
We are tired of the hurt that is brought about by road traffic crashes. Our loved ones, friends, colleagues , neighbours and fellow Zimbabweans have been injured or killed on the roads and the burdens financially, socially and mentally are unbearable.
So we the undersigned call on the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Infrastructural Development in Zimbabwe to improve the road safety situation in Zimbabwe by enforcing more deterrent legislature, implementing punitive measures that work, constructing safer road and transportation systems and having a reliable post crash response system.
