1. Stryker Local Schools has purchased land on both sides of Short Street to fulfill requirements by the Ohio School Facitilies Commission of land ownership for a school construction project.

2. Short Street has been closed to through traffic during all phases of the new Stryker School construction and renovation process.

3. During construction, the Stryker Local Schools playground was expanded to include land on both sides of Short Street to meet OSFC square footage requirements for a playground.

4. In July 2009, the Stryker Local Board of Education submitted a proposal to Stryker Village Council Members to leave the gates closed during the school year, reverse traffic flow on Short Street and to sell a portion of the parking lot to the village to allow a legal way of passage.

5. In September 2009, the Stryker Village Council rejected the sale of the parking lot and voted to remove the gates across Short Street. Stryker Village Council passed a motion to install fencing on each street side edge of the playground which would divide the playground into two sections. Students will now be required to cross the street to use the north playground.

We, the undersigned, call on the Stryker Village Mayor and Stryker Village Council Members to stop the removal of the gates on Short Street.

We also call on the Stryker Village Mayor and Stryker Village Council Members to consider the safety of our school and community children by leaving the Stryker School Playground as one enclosed area secured by gates on both ends of Short Street.
