Rugeley Academies; Equality in Education despite Hair Colour!

Target: Creative Education Trust (Rugeley Academies)

Petition Background (Preamble):

Children attending Rugeley Academies are being Segregated because of their hair colour choice! The colour of our skin, eyes, HAIR does not affect a child's ability to learn or remove their right to Education.

Schools are blatantly disregarding their own EQUALITY POLICY. Some pupils are segregated while others (with the same hair colour) are ignored. Segregation DOES affect a childs Education! Children are removed from the class and placed with staff members UNQUALIFIED to teach them! My daughter was told to change her hair colour to black blonde brown or red. Her hair is now Orange/Red like a natural Ginger colour. She has been segregated. Other pupils and staff still maintain there Red or Purple hair colours and are allowed to remain in class!

This ridiculous rule is out dated, clearly ineffectual and a waste of teaching staff's time! The Creative Education Trust claim to believe in teaching a pupil to be 'Creative' 'Enterprising' 'Practical' 'Self Confident' and 'Adaptive' Really?? That sounds very modern and forward thinking doesn't it!? Not the sort of Governing Body you would expect to penalise a child for being different or individual!!

From Hagley Parks Equality policy;
The school opposes all forms of racism, harassment, prejudice and discrimination.
The school publicly supports diversity and actively promotes good personal and community relations. Diversity is recognised as having a positive role to play within the School.

Petition:

To the Creative Education Trust and Rugeley Academies Govenors.

We as Parents, Pupils, members of the local community demand the rules concerning a pupils hair colour or style be removed.

A child's hair colour does not affect their education. School however does affect a pupils education by removing the child from the classroom and the qualified teacher! We believe it is a parental choice to allow the use of and colour of hair dye. Not the school's.

Every Child has the right to Education! Hair IS NOT part of the uniform.
