Richard Montgomery parents and students have consistently opposed the Fleet Street extension ever since it was originally proposed, citing student safety as their paramount concern. The extension is now again under consideration as part of the Rockville Pike Plan. The PTSA as well as the Richard Montgomery SGA testified before the Rockville Planning Commission in 2013, opposing the extension. Despite the concerns raised, the plan was approved with the Fleet Street extension intact.

The purpose of the extension is to move traffic off Rockville Pike onto Fleet Street, and this will impact the safety of the over 2,200 students who walk and drive to school. RM has an open lunch as well as numerous after school activities, all of which put a strain on the traffic in and around Fleet Street. The safety of RM students is of paramount concern and it is not a good idea to increase the traffic in front of the school.

We, the undersigned, oppose the proposed extension of Fleet St. due to safety concerns for the students, staff and parents.
