To this day child sexual abuse has remained hidden from the media spotlight and not discussed in the public forum. But of late it seems that first time offenders and repeat offenders are handed very lenient sentences, without due respect to the impact they have on the victims and their families. (A recent example of a 21 month sentence for the possession of 17,000 images).

This issue is not going to go away and a review needs to be undertaken into the way sentences are determined and administered.

We the undersigned call upon the Australian Federal Government to undertake a review of the current penal system methods to determine and assign sentencing for child sex offenders that considers the long term impacts on victims and their families.

At a minimum an offence should be assigned to each individual item that is classified as an act which violates a child's welfare and or safety.
