Democracy in Iran.

Secretary-General of the United Nations,

On Friday 12th June 2009, the people of Iran voted in the country’s presidential elections. The rate of participation was more than 85%. According to all commentators prior to and during the election, Mr Mir Hossein MOUSAVI, a moderate candidate, received the clear backing of the majority of the people, or more than 65% of the vote. But, once again, the Iranian government & regime have engaged in brazen electoral fraud and defied the democratic wishes of the Iranian people, as they did in the last election, by reinstating the conservative candidate, and current president, Mr Mahmood AHMADINEJAD.

People reacted quickly to this injustice by demonstrating spontaneously their discontent by descending in thousands to the streets of Tehran and other major cities. The regime reacted violently to their demands to bring to justice the perpetrators of this electoral fraud by repressing demonstrators, heavy-handed policing, blocking communications and cordoning off key arteries.

No one in the current government & regime has answered or will answer to the just demands of the Iranian people.

We, the undersigned, do not accept this injustice. We demand a rerun of the presidential elections under the supervision of the United Nations Organisation and the Secretary-General himself.
