The Los Angeles County Department of Children & Family Services stopped this KEPS (Kinship Education Preparation and Support) CLASSE for Relative Caregivers in their system.
This vital class teaches and informs new caregivers the pros and cons of working with DCFS. With instruction on raising a relative family member in their home. Furthermore, KEPS explained how to utilize assistance for medical, financial aid, and educational benefits available for the children. (ie Regional Center, Counseling Agency.)
The past five years Relative Caregivers have been deprived of such a valuable informative class.
We the undersigned call on DCFS to reinstate this educational course back into the KEPS Program for the relative caregivers who have chosen to take on the responsibility to keep families together.
This class should be reinstated for the safety and success for all parties involved. Assuring a better understanding of the expectations and responsibilities of the caregiver, DCFS, Courts, Schools, medical services and or supporting agencies.
