The Excess Super Contribution Tax is a tax on people’s mistakes. It must be repealed, it is a bad tax. Over one hundred thousand assessments to pay the tax have been issued by the Australian Taxation Office seeking hundreds of millions of dollars from the superannuation of ordinary Australians.
It is wrong.
Tax is often used as a blunt policy tool but the Excess Super Contribution Tax is not a policy tool it is a punishment. When a government takes most or all of a citizen’s money it cannot be a tax. When it takes all of it and more the so-called tax must be an illegal appropriation.
The Excess Super Contribution Tax affects ordinary people, many of whom have never earned enough to pay personal income tax at a top rate. It must be repealed.
We, the undersigned require the repeal of The Excess Super Contribution Tax.
