As young graduates and prospective students from the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, we call upon the establishment of an FET College in Muden. This is against the backdrop of a shortage of universities in the country.
As students of higher education we are forced to migrate to cities (where many of us are subject to life threatening living conditions in townships, flats and shacks) in order to obtain our qualifications, and in most cases that adds a financial burden to our parents and guardians who often assist with the little they have, especially in cases where many of us are unable to access government funding loans and bursaries.
The establishment of an FET College in Muden can go a long way in motivating for the decentralisation of universities to rural towns and townships instead of shopping centres currently advocated by local governments in many parts of the country.
We, the graduates and prospective students from the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, call on the Ministry of Education to establish an FET College in Muden.
In the near future this can go a long way in decentralising tertiary education (particularly universities) away from inaccessible cities to rural towns and townships.
Our ultimate goal is for the establishment of at least one university in a rural area in each province.
