Representation before Advisory Committee–To include only registered Audiologists / Speech Pathologists under "trained professionals" for Audiological Testing and Hearing Aid dispensing.

Ref; Minutes of the meeting of Advisory Committee on Audiological Testing and Dispensing of Hearing Aids held at RCI on 08th December 2011 at 10:30 A.M.

With ref to decision/recommendations made by the Advisory Committee, there are the certain grievances which had arisen and are narrated in the form of following submissions:

1 As per the existing Law of the RCI Act and rules framed there under in, the Audiologists and Speech pathologists are the only registered rehabilitation professionals holding minimum of bachelor degree as recognized rehabilitation qualification are trained and authorized to do Audiological testing, dispensing of hearing aids etc;

2 It appears from the recommendations/decisions made by advisory committee on the date and time specified above, that tailor made courses needs to be developed even for non Audiologists/ Speech Pathologists ( ASLP in short) ( herein after called "non professionals") who don’t have the requisite qualification of bachleor degree in speech pathology/Audiology and have mostly been employed by ENT doctors/Companies. In addition to this Competency Certification Examination (CCE) conducted by RCI which provides the tag entitling them to practice in the area exclusively meant for ASLP and thus would jeopardize the avenues and detrimental to the prospects of the ASLP professionals who had given sufficient length of academic and practical/Clinical years in order to achieve the objective and entitling to practice in the aforesaid stream under law;

3 The tailor made courses/short term courses if designed for non professionals employed by Companies/ENT doctors would made an intrusion in the stream of the ASLP ,de standardizing the objectives and also dignity of the profession which is solely in the hands of ASLP;

4 Thus, looking on the above all, its in the interest of patient care as well as of ASLP professional that short term courses/tailor made courses if any meant for non professionals needs to be discouraged which violates the existing the norms by lowering the standards in respect of others who are ASLP performing the same task with qualitative difference;

5 That, it will be pleased to forward the grievance before the advisory committee for making view of the same for its disposal by passing appropriate orders and directions.

Thanking you,
Sincerely yours
