Playing outside is a major part in the fight against childhood obesity. As a community we have a responsibility to make sure the places our children play are safe.
More than 200,000 children visit the ER each year because they've been hurt on a playground and 70% of those are due to falling.
The pea gravel at Greenwood Park is dirty and dangerous. The gravel itself causes falls to be more dangerous by scraping and cutting the skin, never mind what can be found among them. Glass, open safety pins and condoms have been found there, not to mention its a bathroom for animals.
It's time to change this. Lets get together and improve our park for our children and generations to come.
We, the undersigned, call on the town of Shelburne to help improve the safety of Greenwood Park playground, by removing the pea gravel and installing a safer surface.
