Background (Preamble):
The Labour administration of Reading Borough Council has taken the decision behind closed doors to scrap end of term refuse collections which had been introduced following pressure from local residents and Lib Dem councillors to reduce fly-tipping.
This decision was taken without any public consultation and will have a detrimental impact on the amenity of the area for residents and community relations.

Petition:
We the undersigned call on the Lead Member for Environment & Sustainability to reinstate additional end of term refuse collections in the University area of Reading to ensure the area stays clean, tidy and free of rubbish.
We express our dismay that this decision was taken without public consultation and that this proposal did not appear in either the Labour or Green Party manifesto during the May 2011 local elections.
