Petition Background (Preamble):
The City of Red Deer is building a three story parkade over the existing bus terminal. In order to accommodate the construction, there is a plan to close 47th street between 48th and 49th Avenues to public traffic and use our street as the transit terminal.
This means the total closure of the street outside of CSC, therefore parking/access will be a minimum or one block away. The time lines are May 1, 2009 through March 2010.
Simply put, children with various special needs will not have easy access to this school. Special needs range from wheelchair students, to children with mental and emotional disorders and a wide variety other disabilities.

We, the undersigned citizens, are in support of this petition that opposes the plan by the City of Red Deer to close 47th Street in order to use it as a Transit site from May 2009 until March 2010.
We feel this violates the basic rights of Children with Special Needs to access their necessary educational and therapy needs.
