Cemeteries of Jannat ul Baqi and Jannat ul Mualla in the holy cities of Madina and Makkah of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are a well-known place of great historic and religious significance to Muslims around the world. It is a special place they hold close to their hearts, is a part of their identity and something that they cherish greatly.

In 1924 and 1925, the then government of Saudi Arabia razed down most ancient cemeteries of Jannat ul Muallah (Makkah) and Jannat ul Baqee (Medina), where the pious personalities of Islam (Progeny of Muhammad (P.B.U.H) and heroes of the humanity are buried.

By disgracing and destroying the places worthy of respect and reverence, Saudi rulers caused severe pain and grief to the whole mankind. Saudi Arabia not only bulldozed the holy shrines and graves of sacred personalities for fulfilment of their specific ideologies based upon extremist and irrational concepts and also imposed restrictions on the pilgrims to even visit these demolished cemeteries. The demolished holy shrines were not only an asset to Muslims but also a common heritage of the whole mankind.

The same act of destruction of holy Islamic signs is still continued in Saudi Arabia. These tragic and unjustifiable acts are a clear confiscation of the fundamental rights, while at the same time; it is also an open challenge for the protectors of the fundamental rights.

Through this petition, Tehreek e Nafaz e Fiqh e Jafariya (TNFJ Australia) strongly and vehemently demands from the United Nations Human Rights Council and Special Rapporteur on freedom of religion or belief and UNESCO, who are the biggest international organization for the protection of archeological monuments and cultural heritage around the world, Human rights and right for freedom of religion or belief around the world, to use its influence over the government of Saudi Arabia to get the shrines of Jannat ul Baqee and Jannat ul Muallah rebuilt and restored to their past dignity and stop their further construction on Holy cities of Medina and Makkah in the name of expanding the city while destructing the holy places and moving the holy relics and other historical and religious graves.

Tehreek e Nafaz e Fiqh e Jafariya also demands from the United Nations to declare the cities of Makah and Medina as international cities and world herritage sites, the preservation of the places of historic significance must be ensured, while all kinds of restrictions currently imposed on the visitors and pilgrims of these sacred places must be lifted.
