WE, the undersigned, believe that the Marble Mountain Road between West Bay and Marble Mountain is in dire need of re-surfacing.

This road, which is a part of the Bras d'Or Lake Scenic Drive, is approx. 18km in length. It has been almost 3 decades since the road was originally paved and in the last number of years the condition has been deteriorating rapidly.

In various places it is dangerous, almost impossible not to veer into the opposing lane when avoiding holes or depressions in the road. During the winter months when the snowplow cannot do an effective job clearing the road the dangers become even more imminent, forcing traffic to drive on or over the center line.

Marble Mountain and surrounding communities depend greatly on tourism and seasonal residents to keep our summer events successful. It is well known that the issues mentioned above cause a lot of wear and tear on vehicles. This not only becomes an issue with locals but with tourists as well.

Numerous people enjoy cycling through this beautiful section of the Scenic Drive, but the dangers presented are far greater than they should be. Some cyclists have already sustained injuries which resulted form the condition of the road.

THESE petitioners are calling upon the Municipal Council of Inverness to persuade the Department of Transportation & Infrastructure Renewal to take action.
