Over the next 4 years we will spend nearly 1 hundred million dollars on Community Centres, Library Services, Parks, sport and recreation, Tourist Parks and Campgrounds. FYI the Community Centre Bill for the next 4 years alone will be $2.5 million.

Public Swimming pools in 7 of the Gold Coast suburbs will cost over 30 million dollars and then another $50 thousand for a pool audit? Then there is the Youth and Community Services bill at a whopping $17 million dollars. The waste management cost for 08/09 alone is estimated at ..... you ready..... $134,691,804. This is for city cleaning, which everyone benefits from, recycling, waste collection and disposal, another thing everyone is happy to have.

So as a rate payer, you are paying for everyone who is not a ratepayer to have their rubbish collected and disposed of. Not only that as a rate payer you are also paying for the council to clean up horrific mess on the streets in Surfers Paradise every Friday and Saturday night. Yea you know, the mess all the NON rate payers are making. The bill for recreational space along will go up a massive 33.3% this year alone and the water charges 16.5%.

What I am proposing is simply a Fair’s Fair attitude here. In other words you play you pay. I propose that every person aged 21 and over should have to contribute to the City Council just like the ratepayers have to, to go on enjoying this beautiful part of the world.

Imagine; if there were let’s say 150,000 people aged from 21 and not a home owner paying a levy of say $300 a year. That is an extra $45 million dollars ever year. Imagine what could be done with that money. We could have more police on our streets, better services all over the Gold Coast, we could better roads quicker, we could do a whole host of things. It would also mean that the rates for rate payers could actually be fixed for up to 5 years.

Please support the proposal of introducing a levy for all NON ratepayers aged 21 and over so that EVERYONE who lives on the Gold Coast contributes towards it, really .......why shouldn’t they?

This is where you can have your say and make it count. Remember it is all about Fairs Fair. You play you pay! For full video and link back to petition go to www.bloodynora.com.au

We the undersigned support this proposal for the Gold Coast City Council to introduce an annual levy for people aged 21 and over who are NOT currently home owners and thereby support the notion that it should not continue to be only home owners that should bear the increasing burden every year by way of paying rates to fund the Gold Coast City Council.
