Racism is not Banter

As a supporter of Bray Wanderers i would like to express my utter abhorence and disgust at the actions of both a Supporters Club member and more importantly the General Manager of Bray Wanderers Football Club, Mr Martin O Connor.

Following the recent tragedy in Florida which saw the deaths of 50 people and caused countless families so much hurt the General Manager of Bray Wanderers F.C. Martin O Connor chose to mock the tragedy with a jovial post on Facebook. He also saw fit to post a racist post depicting one of the English players. I feel this man should not be in a position to represent our Club. For many years Bray has had a great reputation as a Club with moral values and were respected throughhout the length and breath of the country as a family club. However it is my view that the reputational damage these posts are doing to our Club are sowing the seeds for a lasting legacy of ridicule and distain from the wider football community.

More importantly i fear for the club with so many young people looking at social media and seeing a man in the most influential position at our club being both racist and totally insensitive to the suffering of those that lost their lives in such tragic circumstances. I call on Mr O Connor to resign his position with immediate effect and call on the Supporters Club to revoke his membership. Should we accept this behaviour of a man who holds a position of General Manager or a Supporter Club member.

I don't think any right minded football supporter can stand beside these posts in the current environment and accept them in any shape or form. The Irish Supporters have nurtured a respect across the world by their friendly approach to celebrating the efforts of the Irish team and to see these posts on Social media attributed an Irish person is a disgrace and should in no way be tolerated.
