FIRST it was the children’s swimming area at La Balsa Beach that got the chop. Now Sunshine Coast Council are considering moving to further restrict dog access in the area, in response to complaints from a vocal “very small” minority.
Dog owners fear the council will eventually ban dogs from the Point Cartwright area altogether.
It is a situation that mirrors the controversial removal of the safety net at La Balsa Beach in 2008 following complaints from a handful of nearby residents. The prospect of tighter restrictions has left the many dog lovers who use the area furious.
At stake is what dog owners say is the region’s only off-leash area that has safe walking paths with safe beach and river access for dogs and their owners.
We, the undersigned, strongly object to any changes (other than a relaxation of the times available) that will restrict dog off leash areas in La Balsa Park or Point Cartwright Park and beach areas.
