The government of South Australia provides employment to a significant number of South Australians. Its employer brand pitches it as being a flexible, innovative workplace with excellent career opportunities.

That may be the case once staff have been employed, but there are significant barriers to gaining entry into the public service.

For many years, job applicants are required to answer selection criteria in order to be considered for an interview. Often these selection criteria are numbered in the 20s, with each point having to be meticulously addressed. Applications - regardless of the suitability of the applicant and his or her ability to do the job - are not considered unless the selection criteria is responded to, and answered in the correct format (i.e. Situation, Task, Action, Result).

Even It Up! believes that the SA government should walk the talk and prove that it is an innovative, flexible and forward-thinking employer in order to attract the best and brightest. The state of South Australia depends on it.

We, the undersigned, call on the government of South Australia to eliminate the need for job applicants to answer selection criteria when applying for public service roles.
