The Petition of certain students and parents of students attending the Boyer College of Music and Dance draws attention to excessive singing and time spent in Choir in the fall of 2012. Student singers need protection against over singing and fair distribution of credit hours.
The Petitioners therefore request that the Boyer College of Music and Dance
A) Count full participation in the opera chorus as an ensemble credit that would count towards the 7 ensemble credits required for a Bachelors degree of music in vocal performance from Temple University.
B) Allow no more than 6 hours of singing within a 2 day period, and 10 hours within a 5 day period, whether in rehearsal or performance, for any one credit ensemble (this includes joint choir rehearsals), so that students may have vocal time to practice and time to study when exams approach. Unless the student gives un-coerced consent at the beginning of the semester.
C) Allow choir credits from colleges other than Boyer College of Music and Dance to transfer should the student desire to transfer those credits.
