The Kingston and St. Andrew Foster Parents Association is aware that the birth certificates of children who have been adopted are labeled “ADOPTED” in bold across the actual certificate.
This reinforces the stigma and related discrimination faced by children who are adopted and continues to place them in a mentally / physically uncomfortable position.
We the undersigned therefore call on the Registrar’s General Department (RGD) to stop that practice and find more sensitive and private ways to record that and for it to be revealed ONLY when absolutely necessary.
