Kennedy Catholic has acknowledged and thanked Coach Kelly for his contribution to their Program. They indicated they are opening up the Coaching position to applicants that instill high standards and values.
The Administrators have expressed their willingness to speak to parents and students. This petition is now closed.
The Kennedy Catholic Boys basketball students and parents are objecting to the abrupt firing of Coach Frank Kelly from the boys Head Varsity Basketball Program.
Coach Kelly has dedicated himself to building a strong basketball program at Kennedy, and many students have chosen to attend Kennedy based on his commitment and philosophy. He has dedicated himself to this program throughout the year, and has made extreme sacrifices both financially and physically by taking away time from his family and business.
He has taught the students more than just basketball concepts, but also how to be good citizens with strong values and morals. In conjunction with Coach Kelly's termination, the residing Varsity Girls Basketball Coach has informed a number of people that the school will be announcing him as the new Varsity Boys Basketball Coach.
Many parents and players are extremely distressed by the lack of regard in the way this whole situation is being handled. There is no doubt that some are planning to transfer out, and some incoming Freshman are considering other options. Each of the parents of the students that participate in the Basketball Program selected Kennedy based on its' values and beliefs.
The School Administration and Board of Directors are accountable to the students and parents, and are obligated to demonstrate their values day in and day out, and continue to serve as role models for the students.
The School Administration and Board of Directors should address the unprofessional way in which Coach Kelly was terminated and give him the respect and courtesy he is due after dedicating and committing himself to the Basketball Program and increasing enrollment at Kennedy Catholic school.
The parents and students need to be given the opportunity to form a parents and student committee to fill the position of Boys Varsity Basketball Coach, which has been a procedure that has worked very well in the past.
