Poaching of Sea Turtle Eggs: Sea turtles are air-breathing reptiles that are adapted to the marine environment. These sea turtles inhabit the tropical and sub tropical ocean waters around the world.
The common names for sea turtles is marine turtles and they are placed under the Cheloniidae / Dermochelyidae families. There are seven species of marine turtles of which six are placed under the endangered species list.
The following table will cover the names of the sea turtles species that will help you understand their conservation status. The first step for a sea turtle to have a chance at life. And this first step of life has become a delicacy in many countries.
The sea turtles are at a loss on land due to their myopic vision and wobbly gait. They also do not possess any poisonous darts or claws to protect their eggs.
The nasty poachers have an opportunity and steal their eggs. The cartilage or 'callippe' is cut out of the live turtle at the bottom of the shell. The poor baby is left on the beach to die a painful death.
How cruel can one be to steal turtle eggs to sell them and endanger the environment of our seas with the increase of Jelly Fish and other species that turtles control for us.
We, the undersigned, call on the United Nations and local Governments and Presidents to eliminate the stealing of Sea Turtle Eggs that Mother Sea Turtles have deposited into the sands of our countries,
All Planning Agencies should take into account this issue by banning and enforcing (by court action) action against such abuses by persons stealing such eggs.
