The Gallipolis, Ohio City Commissions has passed an ordnance banning pit bull breeds and mixes.

The city says in practice owners caught with pit bull breeds or mixes will have 7 days to remove the dog from town. That is unless they demonstrate vicious behavior in that event police will seize and impound the dog (more likely they will just shoot the dog.)

Failure to comply is a misdemeanor which can mean up to 6 months in jail and a $1000 fine.

Dogs don't bite because of their breed, dogs bite because they are afraid and that is almost always because of poor socialization and lack of positive training, isolation on a chain, abuse, or neglect.

I have a red nose pit bull and he is the most lovable dog I have ever seen. My son rides him around, plays with him and never once has he bitten or even snapped at my son. It's all about how you raise them. I think this ban has gone on long enough, I shouldn't have to get rid of my dog just because of where I live.

I'm making this petition because I know serval people who have had to give their dog away or have had them taken away by the pound or even shot. We should be allowed to have pit bulls in city limits, especially since every other dog is capable of doing the same thing a pit bull can do.
