The Boddam and District Community Association and the RAF are in the process of bullying local home owners into opening a historically closed road.

It has been leaked that The Shielings road (Gordon Avenue) in Boddam Aberdeenshire is to be forcefully opened by the request of the Boddam and District Community Association and the RAF.

None of the home owning residents of the Shielings or surrounding properties in the boddam community were informed of this decision by either the RAF or the Boddam and District Community Association.

The home owners are concerned that their houses will be devalued due to no longer being a cul-de-sac and as the road is partially owned by the home owners they would have to foot the bill for the damage to the road due to the excess traffic using it.

Residents are also worried about increased noise and air pollution, the safety of children that live there and the public being in danger due to the junction having no road markings and being too narrow.

It does however state in the home owner’s deeds that the road should be open for all residents, however none of the house owners or surrounding properties want the road open and have not been consulted or asked their opinion on the matter.

Historically the road has never been open to the public and it was stated in the RAF Buchan development brief (final draft) that the road was unadoptable by the Aberdeenshire council due to the Southern junction needing a major upgrade. The opening of road would create a danger to the public due to it being unsuitable.

The RAF (Defence Infrastructure organization) were petitioned on the matter but declined to engage or speak to the home owners of the shielings and surrounding area.

The Boddam and District Community Association chairperson was consulted on the matter and said that the Boddam and District Community Association alone made the decision to open the road without consulting either the home owners or the Boddam community. This decision was made in a meeting closed to the public. A petition was handed over to the chairperson to show the majority of local residents were keen to see the road stay closed.

If the road was to remain closed, barriers would be fitted at the junction where they originally were in the past. The barriers would be able to be folded over to allow access to emergency vehicles if needed.

We the undersigned residents petition the Boddam and District Association and RAF (DIO) to prevent the forced opening of the historically closed road called The Shielings (Gordon Avenue) in Boddam to vehicle traffic.

The reasons for the petition are listed below.
1. Heavy traffic use of our road which would damage the road surface.
2. Danger to our children due to heavy traffic flow and road being used as a rat run.
3. Noise and air pollution caused by the increased traffic flow.
4. Devaluation of our property due to the road no longer being a no through road.
5. Road unsafe for public use as stated in the RAF Buchan development plan.
