Zemzem Ali (aka Emebate Geda Bekele) is a young woman from Ethiopia who was imprisoned and ill treated in her own country for being a member of the Oromo tribe, and part of the opposition party called the Oromo Liberation Front. She fled to the UK and is seeking asylum here. Her husband is still thought to be in prison in Ethiopia, although she has not heard from him at all in the last 2 years since she has been in the UK.

She has had her first application rejected, and is currently in detention awaiting deportation. She was arrested on the 7th December 2011 from her home in Sheffield. She is hoping to find a solicitor so that a fresh claim for asylum can be made, but currently there is a date of 22nd December for her flight out.
She is very frightened to return to Ethiopia. If she is deported then she is likely to be in serious danger of ill treatment and imprisonment, and her life may also be at risk.

She is a lovely person, has tried hard to learn English and would integrate well in to the UK if she were allowed to remain.

We, the undersigned, call on the UK Border Agency and the Home Office to release Zemzem Kadir Ali from detention, re examine her case, and grant her indefinite leave to remain.

The Petition for Zemzem Kadir Ali Home Office number: A1413248 petition to Home Office was written by Laura Caley and is in the category Human Rights at GoPetition.
