People working for a collaborative government
Petition published by People For A Collaborative Government on Aug 14, 2012
Target: The People
Region: United States of America
Web site: www.facebook.com/TakingBackNovember
Petition Background (Preamble):
Whether we are liberal or conservative, I believe that the majority of Americans are capable of seeing that the chronic partisan divide in our government is crippling not just our social discourse, but the ability of government to do the things that it needs to do.
As long as things remain as they are, each party can be confident of the support of a large chunk of the population, no matter what they do, simply because that segment is unwaveringly opposed to the other party. As a direct result of this, propaganda is easy and effective. The only reason this system is still in place is not because it works, but because if we are conservative, we fear the liberals will win if we don't vote republican. If we are liberal, we fear the conservatives will win if we do not vote democrat. If we can agree that this state of affairs is unacceptable we can escape this trap.
We need to let the two most powerful political parties know that their shared power is not absolute, that we the people can and will break it if necessary.

Petition:
We, the undersigned, pledge that once the petition reaches a number of signatures equal to half of those who voted in the last national election, we will, in the next election vote for a candidate who is neither democrat nor republican, even in the case that there is a member of the two parties who shares more of our views.
In this way we will show both parties that the elected representatives are ultimately responsible to their constituents and if they cannot behave responsibly we the people are capable of electing others.
