High risk lending resulted in high losses. The tax payer has bailed out the banks. Bonuses should be paid on performance. If a bank is reduced to seeking tax payer money, then bankers who took these excessive risks should expect to repay the tax payer before resuming their large bonus payouts.

Any other business would not have been bailed out in this way. Look at Chorus - all these hard working individuals have lost their jobs. If they had had the tax payer support, like the bankers had - they would not be demanding bonuses in addition to this!

We, the undersigned, call on the British Government to demand that banks repay the taxes given to them before they continue to pay large bonuses.

We also want greater regulation of the banks so that this type of fiasco is prevented from occurring in the future.
