to allow bands to parade anywhere in ULSTER
Region:
United Kingdom

The Twelfth is an annual Protestant celebration on 12 July. It is alternatively known also as Orangemen's Day or as the Boyne celebrations, commemorating the Battle of the Boyne in 1690, and the Glorious Revolution.

The main official way in which the Twelfth is celebrated in Northern Ireland is through marches, which are held all over the province.

We want to keep the 12th in Bushmills, Cloughmills, Ballycastle, Ballymoney and loyalist Rasharkin ULSTER - NO SURRENDER

On 12th July day I arrived in Rasharkin only to find it cordoned off due to a hoax bomb. It was quite clear that Republicans were determined to cause havoc on 12th day. I was glad that the hoax bomb was quickly cleared and the parade was able to get on its way. During the main parade I understand bandspeople had golf balls thrown at them between the shop and the pub. In my opinion there was not enough police in Rasharkin and they did not take strong enough action.

Future traditional parades in Rasharkin should not be curtailed because of the actions of Republicans or the inaction of the PSNI. At the earliest time possible I will be seeking a meeting with Chief Superintendent Will Kerr to discuss the policing on 12th July.

Meanwhile, DUP MLA Ian Paisley Junior said: A quiet and peaceful Twelfth is in everyone's interests and progress on devolution will only be made when republicans take in hand rioters and troublemakers from their own community. I expect to see Sinn Fein shopping these troublemakers to the police. - John Finlay
