Palm Beach Atlantic University (PBA) Administration devised a meal plan for the Fall Semester of 2006 in which any person having a meal plan can only use a single swipe for each meal period (usually about every four hours). This was in response to Sodexo (PBA’s food affiliate) “loosing money”.

This creates the following problems:

(1) Does not allow guests to be easily and flexibly admitted.

(2) Does not allow students to retain a flexible eating schedule in an often hectic, scholastic environment.

(3) Leaves students unable to redeem all remaining swipes they have already paid for at the end of each week.

(4) Prevents meal-plan holders from getting beyond what is considered by them to be a “full meal” from PBA’s “Common Ground” or “A la Carte”.

(5) Diminishes community by forcing students to do such things as eat off-campus, not eat at all, and preventing them from eating together on certain, perhaps unforeseen, occasions.

We feel this is an unnecessary measure to take in order to save money. Simple
block meal plans should suffice and provide a fair amount of flexibility for the students, however they were not given a fair chance (i.e. more than one year) to determine whether this would be a sufficient remedy.

We, the undersigned meal plan holders, wish to express our dissatisfaction for the new meal plan regulations.

This petition embodies our desire for the meal plan system to be reverted to a week-block plan, at the least, free of daily time constraints.

The Palm Beach Atlantic Meal Plan petition to Palm Beach Atlantic Administration & Sodexo Team was written by Joshua Leonard and is in the category Miscellaneous at GoPetition.
