This petition supports objection to coal mining in the Southern Highlands.
In a media release dated 7 October 2010, Member for Goulburn, Pru Goward stated "There may be coal in the ground here, but that does not mean that local living standards, livelihoods, and clean water should be put at risk."
To the Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of New South Wales,
The Petition of residents of the Goulburn electorate brings to the attention of the House the intention of a foreign company to invest in longwall mining in the Southern Highlands area. This would severely impact on the community, the environment and the provision of water to the Sydney area.
The undersigned petitioners therefore ask the Legislative Assembly to intervene with the Federal Government to ensure this mining proposal does not proceed.
