Linden Unified School District

United States of America

Linden Unified School District is considering a cell phone tower on the football stadium, in between the Elementary & High school. An area in between schools, but also a gathering place for many community events, such as American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, The Cherry Festival, school walk-a-thons, and most sporting events and practices, including football, soccer, baseball & cheerleading.

3 out of every 100 people are electro sensitive, which means they suffer ill effects when exposed to electromagnetic radiation. There are approximately 1,136 students combined between the Elementary and High School which means that 35 students would be experiencing overt symptoms. Noting that these students may experience more serious diseases, like cancer, several years down the road. These numbers don’t include teachers, other staff members, or residents in the surrounding area who may also be affected.

The FCC states the following on their website; Some studies have also examined the possibility of a link between RF exposure and cancer. Results to date have been inconclusive. However, a recent 10 year, 25 million dollar study showed clear evidence that exposure to EMF radiation caused brain and heart tumors in rats! Despite this knowledge, FCC has not changed their regulations since 1996 when 2G was in effect and limited cell phones were being used. The Food and Drug Administration has further information on this topic with respect to RF exposure from mobile phones at the following Web site: FDA Radiation-Emitting Products Page.

The World Health Organization's International Agency for Research on Cancer Classified Radiofrequency Fields as Possibly Carcinogenic to Humans on May 31, 2011. The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), through the Monographs program, seeks to identify environmental factors that can increase the risk of cancer in humans. IARC uses the following categories to classify environmental agents:
Group 1: Carcinogenic to humans.
Group 2A: Probably carcinogenic to humans.
Group 2B: Possibly carcinogenic to humans.
Group 3: Not classifiable as to its carcinogenicity to humans.
Group 4: Probably not carcinogenic to humans.
IARC has classified radiofrequency fields in Group 2B, possibly carcinogenic to humans.

With that being said there are absolutely no studies to date that have tested these harmful effects on children. It is scientifically known that a child’s skull is thinner and therefore penetration is higher! Studies have shown that cell phones held up to a child’s skull cause a significantly higher impact than that of an adult!

Our children should not be test subjects! There are mounds of evidence showing the harmful effects of non-ionizing radiation and as a result it has been classified as possibly carcinogenic! A little extra income is not worth risking our children’s health! There is ample amount of evidence that warrants opposition to these towers and we ask that you support the parents who are fighting this fight by signing this petition.

We the undersigned, request that Linden Unified School District oppose all telecommunication towers from all Linden Unified School District properties. The World Health Organization's International Agency for Research on Cancer Classified Radiofrequency Fields as Possibly Carcinogenic to Humans on May 31, 2011. There have also been studies that have shown exposure to radiofrequency fields as possible contributors to tumor growth in lab rats. Opposition to these towers are imperative to our children’s health and future. Linden Unified School District promotes a safe learning environment to our children while attending school within their district. With the facts presented and the latest classification of radiofrequencies as possibly carcinogenic to humans, this does not make for a safe environment for our children. School grounds are no place for devices that may contribute to cancer to be located.
