The State of Colorado paid Qwest Communications, Inc. 37 million dollars to build a state-wide fiber optic network in 2000 as part of the MNT Project. After nine years of delays and questionable excuses, Qwest has not completed the last 16 miles of fiber optic line that was clearly specified, paid for and allocated to San Juan County and Silverton, the county seat.

It's unacceptable that Qwest has unfairly profited by NOT completing this important fiber optic line to Silverton, one of Colorado's most isolated areas. Today, San Juan is the only county in Colorado not to have the fiber optic link promised and paid for by the taxpayers of Colorado in 2000.

We the undersigned, demand that Qwest Communication, Inc. and our Colorado government officials, who are supposed to be providing contract oversight, move immediately to complete the fiber optic line to Silverton, Colorado. This fiber optic line has already been paid for by taxpayers in the 37 million dollar 2000 MNT Project and it should be installed immediately without further delay.
