The Lachine Canal in Montreal and its shorelines have long been used for summer activities such as biking, inline skating and pleasure boating but has never been opened for cross-country skiing and ice skating during the long winter months.
Our goal is to petition Parks Canada and the City of Montreal to open and manage this historic landmark during the winter months so its citizens and many visitors can take advantage of its natural beauty proximity to the city core, much like the lucky citizens of Ottawa with the world famous Rideau Canal.
We, the Undersigned, call on Parks Canada and the City of Montreal to open and manage the Lachine Canal and its many features and facilities during the winter months so that Montrealers and City visitors can skate and cross-country ski its entire length from Lachine to Old Montreal.
