- Miscarriage occurs in 20 to 30 % of all confirmed pregnancies.
- 75 to 80 % of miscarriages occur within the first 12 weeks of conception, sometimes so early that a woman my not even know she is pregnant.
- It is therefore believed that 50 % of all conceptions result in miscarriage.
- Ectopic pregnancy occurs in 2 to 3 % of all conceptions.
- Molar pregnancy occurs in 1 out of 2000 pregnancies.
- In 50 % of all stillbirths, no cause can be determined.
October 15th gives parents a chance to grieve our babies that we have lost to either miscarriage, stillbirths, SIDS and other causes that babies die from.
Pregnancy & Infant loss is a cause that is very important to many parents all across Alberta, as well as around the world. Awareness campaigns have been passed in the United States and in New Brunswick as well as Manitoba, our hope is that it will be passed in Alberta.
