Background (Preamble):
Gov. Sanford has vetoed S. 1392, a bill passed by the South Carolina General Assembly that authorizes a new special license plate that would say "Coon Hunters."
The "Coon Hunters" special plate is sponsored by the South Carolina Coon Hunters Association, which refused to allow the plate to say "Racoon Hunters." The SC Coon Hunters Association would receive part of the extra plate fee from the "Coon Hunters" plate.

Petition:
The General Assembly should sustain Governor Mark Sanford's veto of S.1392, because South Carolina should NOT issue a special license plate that says "Coon Hunters."
The "Coon Hunters" plate often often would be misinterpreted as a derogatory racial slur, instead of a reference to raccoon hunting.
Most Americans and Canadians would eventually see the "Coon Hunters" plates, because license plates are inherently mobile.
Also, many people would object to the "Coon Hunters" plate because it promotes and subsidizes hunting.
