Mayor Michael Bloomberg, and Governor David Patterson are considering "New" Taxes on the people of New York City, and New York State to close impending budget deficits nearing billions of dollars respectively.
New Taxes will include:
- A possible tax on Gasoline
- A 5 cent tax on Plastic Bags
- A sales tax increase of 0.125%
- A 7.5% property tax increase
- A 7.5-15% tax on personal income
- Ending the $400 property tax rebate
- Toll increases on the East River Bridge, and all other bridges possibly.
With recent massive increases in the past year in several of our utilities such as Water, Tolls, Buses, Subways, Auto Insurance. A defeat in the New York State Legislature of a 1% Sales Tax decrease which would have put $1 billion dollars in the pockets of New York City Residents, an Amazon Sales Tax enacted this past June, and a defeat of the 4% Property Tax Cap. The taxes are just too HIGH!
As always I believe in a time where we are seeing people tightening their belts at home, unemployment increasing, spending in our local economies down this is the wrong time to take more money out of the dwindling pockets of the people across this great state.
I urge every member of the New York City Council, and State Legislature along with the Minority, and Majority leaders of all chambers of government to stand up for their constituents, and demand to Mayor Bloomberg and Governor Patterson to rescind their bid on another "New" tax which will only impact our local economies even more.
