Target:
Frederick County Executive Jan Gardner and the County Council
Region:
United States of America

The Frederick County Council on Tuesday on a 4-3 party-line vote to raise more property tax revenue during a pandemic. Council President M.C Keegan-Ayer said this years average tax increase would be the equivalent of "two Starbucks coffees." The reality is, that the property tax revenue brought in has increased every year since County Executive Gardner was first elected. This years budget increased county spending by $28 Million and property tax revenue by $8.5 million all while the County Executive keeps businesses closed instead of following Governor Hogan's Phase 1 reopening plan. Once the full picture of the economic devastation caused by this pandemic becomes clear, adjustments will have to be made to the budget.

We, the undersigned, call on Frederick County Executive Jan Gardner and the County Council to reverse their to decision to increase property taxes and spending during a global pandemic while they keep churches, retailers, barbershops and hair salons closed while the majority of the state is opening back up under Governor Hogan's Phase 1 reopening.
