Two Trees has requested permission from the NYC Department of Buildings to do construction work at the Domino Sugar Factory site on Saturdays, beginning at 7 am.
The local community around the Domino Sugary Factory site is already going to be severely impacted by noise, dust, pollution and traffic from the demolition and construction for many years to come. Granting permission to work on Saturdays, beginning at 7 am, will make that burden unbearable for many local residents. For those with Monday-Friday workweeks, half of our time to rest and relax at home with our families will be ruined. Additionally, Two Trees has asked for a further exception that will allow them to begin working at 7 am, even earlier than the standard Saturday work permits allow.
We are supportive of expanding the stock of affordable housing and for creating additional construction jobs. However, we feel that the community has already been asked to sacrifice a great deal during the Domino construction and should not be asked to give up half of the weekend as well.
NYC Department of Buildings and Community Board #1,
Please support local residents near the Domino Sugar Factory Site by refusing Two Trees permission to do construction work on Saturdays. This is an unfair and excessive burden on the community, given that residents will already be living with Monday-Friday construction for many years to come.
Sincerely,
