Citizens' Petition In Opposition To A Proposed Swine Facility For Callaway County

We, the undersigned, oppose the construction and operation of a large-scale hog confinement facility in Callaway County. It has been requested that the owner/operator withdraw their plan.

Furthermore, if the plan is not withdrawn, we request that the Missouri Department of Natural Resources disapprove any operating permits and the Callaway County Commissioners adopt an opposing resolution.

This petition is based on the concerns listed below:

-The adverse impact of out-of-state corporate farming on local agriculture
-The health of citizens in Callaway County
-The effects on air and water quality in Callaway County
-The property devaluation within Callaway County
-Loss of community values of neighborliness that include: reciprocity, respect, honesty, and shared identity.
-And the potential adverse impact on the quality of life and enjoyment of each resident of Callaway County and surrounding areas.
