(NOTE: New York State Residents only, please.) An ostomy is a surgically created opening on the abdomen for elimination of waste, usually as a result of cancer, disease, or trauma. Life can go on with a new normal after ostomy surgery, except when patients are unable to get insurance reimbursement for supplies, or are limited in their selection or amount of supplies.
This can be disastrous for patients. Certain NYS insurance plans, some private insurances, and some managed care plans do not include coverage.
A bill has been passed in the NYS Assembly (Bill number A10140) and Senate (Bill number S7893) requiring insurance coverage for ostomy supplies.
We, the undersigned, strongly urge that you recognize the importance of these supplies for NYS ostomy patients, and sign this bill into law.
